Amanda brings a genuinely caring, curious and empathetic approach to her therapy sessions with clients. Her nonjudgmental presence, human relatability, and calm demeanour create space for clients to feel comfortable being vulnerable and allow themselves to decompress. Amanda strives to support clients through fostering hope as well as through guiding them in their development of the skills they need to ignite change. Amanda’s therapeutic philosophy is grounded in the principles of interconnectedness and the inherent worthiness of all people.
Amanda’s passion for learning is central to her life inside and outside of her work setting. In addition to enjoying traditional methods of academic learning, Amanda is energized by exploring various facets of life like approaching new creative hobbies, spending time in nature, and exploring other cultures and cuisines. While she understands the complexities of life and emotions, Amanda values simple pleasures like watching a sunset and connecting with loved ones. Amanda works hard to consistently make time for mindfulness so that she can be fully present with herself and others in any setting. In the field of therapy, Amanda enjoys treating various types of clients with attention style differences, low self-esteem, and those wanting to learn to set personal boundaries.
Amanda provides individual therapy to teens, adults and those in later stages of life. She also facilitates Youth and Young Adult Dialectical and Behavioural Therapy (DBT) informed groups with COPE Well Groups.
Background
Amanda brings a unique blend of experience to her practice. Prior to her work as a Psychotherapist, Amanda attained experience for over a decade in the fields of hospitality and communications. She comes prepared for her career in psychology with a high level of foundational knowledge in the areas of emotional intelligence and communication, conflict resolution, cultural competency and inclusion, leadership, and boundary setting. Amanda recognizes that life, and in particular career growth, is not a linear path. She endeavours to support her clients as they travel on their own unique journeys towards self-determination and a sense of fulfillment.
Amanda completed a Master of the Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. She has been providing individual therapy and facilitating Dialectical and Behavioural Group Therapy. Amanda brings a strong understanding of mindfulness, emotional regulation,interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance skills to both the individual and group settings.
